The story of Magda's Style Room
Magda's Style Room believes that shopping for individual style is more interesting (and more fun) than relying on trends. Trends can be fun but they are based on the business of fashion, not on how you feel and look in your clothes. Magda's Style Room began by choosing styles with this in mind and led to providing a new way to shop that incorporates fun and ease for at-home personal shopping, or for private events.
Originally when I began this project, I was learning the ropes as a pro-makeup artist in fashion, production, commericial print...and having come from a background as a professional actor in theatre I felt like it was incredible to have access to quallity clothing to be me. I wanted clothes in great condition that were high quality, but not expensive.
I also loved the idea before it was so hip how moving and sourcing clothing un-used but great was crucial and effective for cost and the planet. I learned that the idea of donating led to more specific purchasing more in sync with who I was and how I liked to dress.
Placing more focus on my inner beauty, form and personality and how often people feel pressure to over buy, over apply (makeup) and purchase fashion that isn't right for their body or life style led me to want to create something new. I noticed that lines, fabric, the quality of clothes that fit correctly and lay on the body well, are the basis for a good outfit -- not what is in style...and then how you work it is up to you.
To be able to purchase wardrobe items based on the individual, not just for the purpose of retail mark-ups, over production, or filling a closet with stuff that doesn't make sense was the point. I ran all around Brooklyn, N.Y. for years while I developed as a promakeup artist and fashion maven speaking with resale specialists, shop owners and women who traded clothing and re-sold. I realized by becoming a curator of style and fashion resale I could take the work out of how people shop and style, and lessen the time and cost involved for them to find the right personal pieces.
Recycling clothing that has no home is important, exciting, and feels right in a culture that over-purchases, over shops, and keeps items around too long. The fashion that no longer fits or suits one person, can become the perfect match for another.
Magda's Style Room knows where our clothes come from. We purchase and curate resale through buying and trade that is special, high quality and sell at the right cost. I have always loved the excitement of dressing people well at a great value without compromising quality or style. I also find joy in connecting people within a network (a natural result of small business) where you personally know who you are working with!
I look forward to styling with you. You'll see for yourself how much money you'll save and what great items you will collect unique to you for a great value and you'll love participating in a new system of sourcing clothes better by adding in a new way to shop.
